Coaching for Real-World Runners
You Don't Need to Be an Elite Runner to Have a Coach
Running coaching isn't just for elite athletes or people chasing exceptionally fast times. It's for runners who want some structure, individual guidance and somebody looking at the bigger picture.
You might be chasing a 5K or 10K PB, stepping up to a half marathon or marathon, trying to become more consistent, or simply wanting to stop guessing whether you're training in the right way.
We start with where you are now and build from there.
Individual Running Coaching
A Plan Tells You What to Do. Coaching Looks at What Happens Next.
A ready-made training plan can tell you what session to do next. Coaching looks at how that training is actually working for you.
Your programme is built around your current running, goals, available training time and experience. I review your completed sessions, training data and feedback to understand how you're responding and what needs to happen next.
If work, family commitments, recovery, illness or your progress means the plan needs to change, it can be adjusted rather than simply expecting you to follow a fixed schedule.
Choose Your Coaching Level
Personalised Coaching, With the Level of Support You Need
Both options give you an individual running programme delivered through TrainingPeaks and access to me through WhatsApp. The difference is how frequently your training is formally reviewed and the depth of analysis, strength and race support included.
Online Running Coaching
A personalised option for runners who want an individual programme, ongoing coach support and regular review without the more detailed weekly analysis of Complete Coaching.
- Initial coaching consultation and onboarding
- Personalised running programme through TrainingPeaks
- Training built around your goals, experience and availability
- Monthly structured training review
- Programme adjustments as required
- WhatsApp coaching support
- General workout feedback
- Pace, heart-rate and perceived effort guidance
- Race preparation and taper guidance built into your programme
Complete Online Running Coaching
A more comprehensive coaching option with proactive weekly review, deeper training analysis, strength programming and additional support around key target races.
- Everything included in Online Running Coaching
- Weekly structured check-in and training review
- Weekly and ongoing programme adjustments where required
- Detailed workout feedback and training analysis
- Detailed pace, heart-rate and perceived effort analysis
- Monthly video or telephone coaching consultation
- Runner-specific strength programme
- Video running technique review where appropriate
- Practical technique feedback, cues and drills where appropriate
- Individual race pacing and race-day strategy for key target events
- General race fuelling and hydration guidance
- Pre-race strategy discussion and post-race review
The £79 option is still personalised coaching, not a generic training plan. If illness, injury, recovery or a meaningful change in circumstances means your training needs to change, the programme can still be adapted between scheduled reviews.
How Online Running Coaching Works
From Your First Conversation to Ongoing Coaching
We establish where you are now, where you want to go and how training can fit realistically around your life. From there, your programme is reviewed and developed as you progress.
Initial Consultation
We discuss your running background, current training, availability, goals and any events you're working towards.
Your Programme
I build your personalised running programme through TrainingPeaks around your individual needs and available training time.
Review & Feedback
Your training and feedback are reviewed at the frequency included in your coaching option, with additional support available through WhatsApp.
Adjust & Progress
Your programme is adjusted where required as your fitness, recovery, circumstances and goals develop.
Delivered Through TrainingPeaks
Your running sessions, along with strength sessions where included, are delivered through TrainingPeaks, giving you a clear view of your programme and keeping your training, feedback and completed sessions together in one place.
Once you complete a session, I can review the available training data alongside your comments and perceived effort. The numbers are useful, but putting them into context is an important part of coaching.
This is where online coaching becomes more than simply receiving a plan. I can look at how your training is progressing, how sessions are fitting together and whether anything needs to change before planning what comes next.
Runner Feedback
What Online Coaching Can Change
The value of coaching often goes beyond the individual sessions. Structure, understanding, accountability and having somebody looking at the bigger picture can change the way training feels.
More Than Just an App
One runner who had previously trained using an app described how coaching helped them realise there was much more to training than simply completing the runs. They particularly valued having Stuart take the time to understand where they were as a runner and get to know them as an individual, rather than relying on training data alone.
Training With Purpose
Runners have commented on the difference it can make to understand the purpose behind each session. Rather than simply going out and running, greater structure helped them understand what they were trying to achieve and how each session fitted into the bigger picture.
Accountability & Support
Knowing that training is being reviewed and having somebody checking how things are progressing can provide the extra push to stay consistent, while still having support when training needs to change.
Feedback reflects individual runner experiences. Training responses, progress and outcomes will naturally vary between runners.
Online Running Coach FAQs
Questions About Online Running Coaching
A coach isn't simply there to give you more sessions. The value is in having somebody looking at how your training fits together and how you develop over time.
What does an online running coach do?
An online running coach plans your training around you rather than asking you to fit around a generic schedule. That means considering your current fitness, running history, goals, available time, recovery and how you're responding to training.
Your programme can then progress as you do. If something isn't working, your circumstances change or your training needs to move on, the next step can be adjusted rather than simply following what was written weeks or months earlier.
Is online running coaching worth it?
The value of online running coaching isn't simply having somebody write a programme. It's having your training planned, reviewed and adjusted around the way you're actually progressing.
Run Fit Coach offers two levels of personalised online coaching, starting at £79 per month. Both include an individual TrainingPeaks programme, coaching support and ongoing adjustment. Complete Coaching at £119 per month adds weekly structured review, deeper analysis, strength programming, a monthly coaching call and more detailed race support.
Training plans can prepare you for an event. Coaching should help develop you as a runner.

Why use a running coach instead of an app?
Running apps have plenty of positives and I've used a number of them myself. They can provide structure, suggest sessions and make training easy to follow. The limitation is that they don't always understand the bigger picture.
There are decisions that training data alone can't always make in context. Why did that run feel harder than expected? Does today's training still make sense? Should the next few days change? A coach can consider your feedback, recovery, training history and what else is happening before deciding what comes next.
An app can process your training data. A coach can put it into context.
Do I need to be a fast runner to have an online running coach?
No. Running coaching isn't reserved for elite or high-performance athletes. You might be trying to improve your 5K or 10K, prepare for a half marathon or marathon, or simply become a more consistent and better-informed runner.
The starting point is where you are now, what you'd like to achieve and how we can build your training progressively from there.
How much does online running coaching cost?
Online Running Coaching is £79 per month and Complete Online Running Coaching is £119 per month. Both options have a minimum three-month commitment. The £79 option includes a personalised TrainingPeaks programme, monthly structured review, WhatsApp support and ongoing adjustments where required. Complete Coaching adds weekly structured review, detailed training analysis, runner-specific strength, a monthly coaching consultation and more comprehensive race-day support.
How do I know if online coaching is right for me?
You don't need to decide before speaking to me. The first step can simply be a free 20-minute telephone consultation. We can discuss your current running, what you're working towards and what you'd like help with.
If online coaching looks like a good fit, I can explain what happens next. If it doesn't, there's no obligation to continue.
