What is the role of a running coach?

A running coach provides athlete profiling, guidance, training plans and support to runners of all levels to help them improve performance, technique and overall fitness. They often tailor their approach based on individual goals, whether it’s completing a first 5k, improving a marathon time, or enhancing general running skills.

What’s the difference between working with a coach online or in person?

Online coaching offers flexibility and convenience. Training sessions can be scheduled to fit your lifestyle, allowing you to maintain a consistent routine. Coaches often provide tailored workout plans, progress tracking, video analysis and virtual check-ins to keep you motivated.

One-on-one coaching presents a unique opportunity for personalised guidance. During in-person sessions, coaches can analyse your form and technique in real-time. Additionally, the motivational aspect of face-to-face interaction fosters accountability. Having someone to encourage you during challenging workouts can make a significant difference in your performance. Ultimately, whether online or in person, working with a running coach provides expert insights tailored to your goals, helping you unlock your full potential as an athlete.

How do I communicate with my coach?

We can communicate  through multiple channels, including email, video conferencing, messaging applications, or by using our specialised coaching platforms like The Good Coach or Trainer Friend app.

Can a running coach help with injury minimisation?

Certainly! A running coach can create a customised, training programme that aligns with an athlete’s ability while offering advice on correct technique and recovery methods. Given that Stuart Sahan is a qualified Sports Therapist, our training plans are meticulously designed to ensure effective coaching, thereby reducing the likelihood of injury.

What qualifications should I look for in a running coach?

Look for coaches with certifications from recognised organisations, relevant experience in coaching runners and a good understanding of sports science principles. Stuart Sahan has been running for the last 10 years, covering distances from 5k to full marathon. Stuart is a fully qualified Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) awarded by England Athletics and holds a 1st class Sports Therapy BSc (Hons) degree and a graduate member of The Sports Therapy Assosiation.

Is it suitable for beginners to work with an online running coach?

Absolutely! Coaches often specialise in working with beginners and mid-pack runners, and can design customised plans that align with current fitness levels and goals. As our mission statement goes, no elitism, just real world coaching for real world results!

How much does it typically cost to hire an online running coach?

Coaching fees vary widely based on experience, overheads and levels of coaching packages offered. They generally range from £40 to £150+ per month. Our packages are competitively priced, giving you great value for money.

What if I have specific race goals or distances in mind?

Your coach will create a tailored training plan that aligns with your specific race goals or desired distances to ensure you’re adequately prepared. This is where having a tailored training programme with a coach keeping you accountable works best.

How long does it take to see results when working with a running coach?

Results depend on various factors including your current fitness level, commitment to the program, and consistency; however, many clients start noticing improvements within 4 to 6 weeks.
